Amateur Boxing
Most people do not require an introduction to boxing. Suffice to say that Boxing is a sport in which two people fight each other using their fists, and is thought to have originated thousands of years ago. Our Boxing class is taught by one of the best coaches in the UK, a Chechen born, Islan Eltuyev.
It doesn’t matter if you are looking to get fit or wish to represent Britain in 2012, this class caters for everyone. People who traine with us come from a wide range of backgrounds: some were total beginners, others were a professional level boxers. All have benefited from our boxing sessions in one way or another.
Our beginners often comment on how quickly they improve. Experienced boxers praise Islan’s advise and depth of knowledge. Other martial artists often found that the faster pace of amateur boxing helped them to dramatically improve in areas where even the slightest advantage can make a difference between winning or losing a match.
Most of our training session follow a fairly predictable format: classes start with a warm up, this includes push-ups, sit-ups, basic punches, etc. Warm up end with a series of 2-3 min shadow boxing rounds during which you practice your techniques against an imaginary opponent. Once everyone is warm we progress onto partner drills and (gentle) sparring. The lesson ends with a warm down.
Our workouts rarely use weights. Instead, we concentrate on exercises that combine interval training with functional movements, such as push up, squats, jumps, carries, etc. This allows us to individually scale the workout, thus getting the best possible results, applicable to a variety of sports.
It doesn’t even matter what level of fitness you are at when you start. All our classes, include fitness and conditioning training aimed at developing and improving overall strength, endurance, flexibility, agility and speed. As you progress with your training, you’ll find that your fitness improves naturally; you’ll notice that you can do more and train for longer.
