Eskrima, Kali & Arnis
The islands of the Philippines are home to a vast array of fighting arts, which have been tested in battle for centuries. The most common varieties of these arts are Eskrima, Arnis and Kali. Within these categories are thousands of fighting styles and systems. Each of these systems has their own strengths and weaknesses and although these systems are mostly known for their weaponry skills they also contain a very sophisticated empty hand element.
Filipino Martial Arts at Team Nemesis draws from several systems of Kali, Arnis and Eskrima, as well as a variety of closely tied Indonesian systems of Silat. The main focus of our class is on the Phoenix Kali Blend, which is combined with the Balicki method of Kali, Lameco Eskrima and the syllabus of the International Kali Arnis Eskrima Federation (IKAEF). All of this skills are taught through a wide variety of drills and games which are designed to bring about an enhanced development of your coordination, dexterity and timing.
We cover a wide array of weaponry skills such as single and double stick, a dagger, double dagger, a stick and dagger or any other combination of long and short weapon. We also educate our students on the use of kubotan (aka pocket stick), staff, sarong and other improvised weaponry.
But we do not limit our classes to just weapon techniques, we also teach panantukan and sikaran (filipino equivalents of boxing and kickboxing), as well as kadena de mano (trapping) and dumog (grappling).
As well as bringing a wide variety of technical material, Filipino Martial Arts training at Team Nemesis is a great cardio-vascular workout in a very friendly and social atmosphere. Our classes follow an established syllabus and grading system which, although not mandatory, provides an excellent method of organising and remembering the techniques, drills and concepts we train.
